Head to Munich’s famous Marienplatz Square with its magnificent church and experience old-world Bavaria with performers in traditional costumes and street markets and of course beer aplenty to herald the arrival of spring as part of the Auer Dult – Maidult Festival (29 April – 7 May). Kids old and young will enjoy the Frühlingsfest (21 April – 7 May) which is focused on fairground fun with rides including the thrilling XXL Racer (not for the faint of heart!), shooting galleries, plus grilled chicken and roasted almonds and bustling beer tents of course. Contemporary art lovers, make sure to check out the Stroke Art Fair (29 April – 1 May) and music lovers, don’t miss the celebrated Long Night of Music (06 May) when a range of unusual venues.

From banks to bookshops to cinemas to churches are given over to music performances of every style you can imagine. Corso Leopold (13-14 May) is one of Munich’s biggest street festivals, covering a one kilometre promenade and replacing cars with creative arts, crafts and culture for two fun-filled days – and last but not least The Pferd (Horse) International München (18-21 May) takes place in the Olympia-Reitstadion stadium and is a great family day out if you love horses, show jumping and dressage.
