Beach Walks & Cliff Trams

Bali’s beaches are predominantly black and not white since their sand is of volcanic origin. But in the island’s Southern reaches – the so-called Bukit Peninsula – you can find some of the island’s only white beaches; hidden crescents of sugary sand lapped by the aquamarine waters of the Indian Ocean, beneath dramatic limestone cliffs. And of course, Karma Beach Bali is one of the most spectacular examples on the island! Accessing these beaches, however, isn’t easy – assuming you don’t have a boat, visiting a secluded stretch of sand can mean a lengthy drive along the coast and a descent down steep steps carved into the cliff face.

Visitors to Karma Beach have always used Karma Kandara’s iconic cliff inclinator to reach the sand. However, while the inclinator is undergoing an upgrade, guests can now access Karma Beach Bali and Le Club 22 via a purpose-built walkway that connects to the adjacent Melasti Beach. We’re providing a regular shuttle service between Karma Kandara and Melasti for all guests, who can then make the short walk over to Karma Beach and back again at their leisure.  The new walkway was inaugurated with a special ceremony last Thursday 18 May, attended by I Wayan Sumartika, head of local village Wijaya Kusuma and I Ketut Kereg Widiantara – Head of the Banjar of the same name. John Makin, the Vice Consul, British Consulate was also present on the day. Karma Kandara’s new and improved cliff inclinator will be back in action by the end of August.

And of course, guests can opt to access Karma Beach Bali via the cliff steps from Karma Kandara, which offer scenic views en route – and an excellent workout, especially for those intrepid enough to climb back up! We’re gearing up for an exciting Summer season at Karma Beach Bali, with a stellar lineup of entertainment, kicking off this week with the arrival of celebrated Sydney DJ Autone taking over the decks at Le Club 22…
