Mole & Badger – A Culinary Homage To The Wind In The Willows

Mole & Badger – A Culinary Homage To The Wind In The Willows

Karma Sanctum on the Green nestles in English countryside that inspired author Kenneth Graham to write his children’s classic The Wind in the Willows…

…So it feels fitting that Karma Sanctum on the Green’s brand new restaurant celebrate the author and his timeless novel. Mole & Badger opens on 1 February with a launch party featuring canapés that showcase the new menu, as well as select wines from the new Wine Emporium.

Kenneth Grahame first lived in the village of Cookham Dean – home to Karma Sanctum on the Green – as a child, returning there as a young father in 1906 and living in the area until his death. Those first years in the Berkshire countryside made a deep impression on Grahame, he remembered an idyllic eden to which he always strove to return.

Beautiful Bavaria – Karma’s Top 5

Beautiful Bavaria – Karma’s Top 5

Think of Bavaria, the area of south-eastern Germany bordering Austria and The Czech Republic, and it may conjure images of steins filled with frothy beer, lederhosen, and rugged mountains. While there’s often an abundance of all the above, there’s much more this breathtaking region of modern Germany has to offer the adventurous holidaymaker.

Fall under the spell of Schloss Neuschwanstein

A fairytale come to life, magnificent Neuschwanstein Castle started life as a rather extreme example of a lord’s folly. The building was commissioned in the 19th Century by “Mad” King Ludwig. Unfortunately for the King, who paid for the castle out of his personal fortune, he died before he could enjoy his grand design. Since that time, Schloss Neuschwanstein has become one of Germany’s most popular tourist attractions. Rising out of the Alpine forest near Fussen, its towering turrets were the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.

Tyson Pedro’s recipe for relaxation

Tyson Pedro’s recipe for relaxation

UFC fighter Tyson Pedro seems wise beyond his years. The 26-year-old mixed martial arts professional competes in the light heavyweight division of the UFC, the global fighting phenomenon which – like Karma Group – celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.

Perhaps it’s the discipline derived from a lifetime of martial arts training – Pedro holds black belts in both Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Kempo as well as a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – yet given that he’s just arrived at Karma Kandara in Bali less than 24-hours after a major bout against fellow light heavyweight Ovince Saint Pruex, we can’t help but be impressed by his uber-relaxed attitude.

“When I’m training, it’s three to four sessions a day, it can feel non-stop,” says Pedro as we take a seat in the resort’s Veritas wine room for a chat. “That’s why I love coming to Karma Kandara; it gives me the chance to relax and get some downtime after such a hectic pace.”
