Karma’s new Aegean jewel opens June 11

Karma’s new Aegean jewel opens June 11

The fully refurbished Karma Minoan on the idyllic Greek island of Crete opens its doors to Karma Group members in time for the stunning Mediterranean summer season.

It was one of Crete’s best-known sons, Nikos Kazantzakis, who in his iconic novel, Zorba The Greek, reflected “Happy is the man, I thought, who, before dying, has the good fortune to sail the Aegean sea.” For Karma Group’s members, an Aegean adventure is about to become a reality.

Opening June 11th, the fully refurbished Karma Minion, situated only five minutes drive from the understated – yet artfully curated – cool of Agios Nikolaos, will be the 27th Karma Resort globally and the second in Greece after the group’s Pelikanos Estate on the island of Mykonos.

An idyllic escape

The resort’s 23 sea-facing rooms are a study in the iconic Greek island aesthetic. Whitewash walls, Aegean blue interior touches and, of course, unparalleled views of the sea, combine to produce spaces that are as relaxing as they are breathtaking.

Karma’s new partnership with England National Rugby Sevens

Karma’s new partnership with England National Rugby Sevens

Karma’s existing members may not be surprised to learn that Karma Group Chairman, John Spence, has been a passionate fan of English rugby since his schooldays at Brighton College in the U.K. In adulthood, his connection to the sport has spurred a lasting relationship between it and the international luxury resort brand Spence founded.

Though the game itself sees some of the toughest competition of any sporting code, rugby is built upon the principles of integrity, fair play, respect, and teamwork. Passion for this noble sport is shared by more than 6.6 million players and even more fans across 120 countries.

Karma’s involvement with England National Rugby Sevens

As the start of rugby season approaches Karma is proud to announce our partnership with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to sponsor the England National Rugby Sevens for 2017/18. The partnership – which includes the England team visiting Karma resorts – consists of all ten legs of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018, and the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

Karma welcomes PennDesign architecture students to Carcassonne, France

Karma welcomes PennDesign architecture students to Carcassonne, France

What could a château in France, UFO sightings, glamping (that’s glamorous camping), and one of the world’s top architectural design schools possibly have in common?

Rather interestingly, it’s Karma Group Founder and Chairman, John Spence.

Renowned architects, Marcelo Spina and Georgina Huljich, both lecturers at UCLA and the University of Pennsylvania, were recently invited by Spence, who also lectures at Yale as the Edward P. Bass Distinguished Visiting Architecture Fellow, to explore Karma Group’s new Carcassonne address, Château de Samary. The sprawling 19th Century property, located a stone’s throw from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Carcassonne, France, represents the latest acquisition in Karma’s continuing plans to expand its luxury Karma Estates brand.

So enchanted were Spina and Huljich with the opportunity that they managed to persuade the Dean of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Architecture to offer select students a trip to France to study the heritage-listed structure as part of their senior work.

2017 Karma Penguin Walk raises scholarship funds for India’s future leaders

2017 Karma Penguin Walk raises scholarship funds for India’s future leaders

Karma has raised over 10,000 GBP to place three of India’s future business and community elite in full university scholarships as part of Karma’s annual Penguin Walk, held recently at Karma’s renowned Le Preverger estate in the French Riviera.

Now in its third year, the event drew a dedicated group of philanthropists for a day of fun, food, and leisurely exercise, which helped to raise funds for Christel House – an international non-profit organisation that transforms the lives of impoverished children around the world.

In true Karma fashion the ‘penguins,’ as participants are known, came ready to walk the almost 30-kilometre trek dressed as the nominated animal for the year. The previous year’s nominee selected “penguins dressed as hamsters” as the 2017 theme, and while most got the memo one member threw caution to the wind and came dressed as the Cookie Monster of Sesame St fame.

Ancient Hoi An’s traditional Vietnamese food

Ancient Hoi An’s traditional Vietnamese food

UNESCO world heritage listed Hoi An’s restaurants and street side eateries offer a tasty snapshot of traditional Vietnamese food. The town’s ancient feel and languid pace of life seem almost tailor-made for long meals and culinary exploration. For the food-loving traveller, Hoi An should be high on your Southeast Asian to do list.

These are the very best traditional Vietnamese foods in Hoi An.

Com Ga Hoi An

This fluffy, oh-so-chickeny dish is a staple of daily life in Hoi An. Com Ga – or Chicken Rice, as English speakers know it – consists of succulent shredded chicken over a bed of fluffy white rice cooked in chicken stock, often with a hint of turmeric for colour.  The chef sprinkles shredded papaya, spring onions and peppermint on top and adds a side of chilli sauce before serving.

Those looking for a taste of Com Ga Hoi An won’t need to go far – from street side food stalls to upscale Hoi An restaurants, each has their take on the perfect Com Ga combination.
