Naval Battles, Marine Disasters And The Search For Longitude: A Maritime Tale Of The Isles Of Scilly

Naval Battles, Marine Disasters And The Search For Longitude: A Maritime Tale Of The Isles Of Scilly

Cloudesley-Shovell may seem a rather unlikely name for an upscale eatery. But there’s a story behind Karma St Martin’s Isles of Scilly venerable double-barrelled restaurant, one that dates back more than 300 years…

In a period when the European powers seemed to be almost constantly at war, Admiral Sir Cloudesley-Shovell found himself resolutely in the thick of things. During the course of his illustrious naval career, Sir Cloudesley-Shovell battled the Dutch, French Spanish and Bavarians – that is when he wasn’t siding with one of them. Such were the times!

Some of his notable achievements included capturing Gibraltar during the War of Spanish Succession, commanding the first ship to break through enemy lines at the Battle of Barfleur (and thus playing a significant part in preventing a planned invasion of England) and repelling another invading French force at the Battle of Bantry Bay in Ireland.

Candidasa – East Of Eden

Candidasa – East Of Eden

Discover Bali’s eastern reaches with Karma Royal Candidasa – black sand beaches, coral reefs, jungle clad mountains, ancient temples and more…

As Bali’s status as a premier island destination continues to evolve around the famous resort enclaves of Sanur, Kuta, Seminyak, Ubud and Canggu, some lesser known locations retain something of the timeless atmosphere that defined Bali before the onset of tourism – where Hindu-animist ceremonies set the daily rhythm, farmers tend their rice paddies and fishermen bring in their catches at dawn… Such is Candidasa – a tranquil little harbour town on Bali’s east coast set against a backdrop of rainforest clad mountains.

One of the most iconic attractions in the area is Pura Goa Lawah in the nearby village of Pesinggahan – one of Bali’s six most sacred places of worship. Head deeper into the mountains and discover a lesser known yet spectacular Pura Luhur Lempuyang – it’s worth tackling the 1700 steps that lead to the peak, where you’ll be greeted by monkeys – and a jaw dropping view.

Le Preverger – Legend of The Riviera

Le Preverger – Legend of The Riviera

Karma Estates is Karma Group’s elite collection of properties in the world’s most exclusive destinations. The most historic among them is surely Le Preverger. The Côte d’Azur is hardly short on celebrated chateaux thanks to its status as a Mecca for celebrities and well-heeled cosmopolitans. But even among such august company, Le Preverger stands out.
Set amidst vineyards and orchards in the rolling hills above St Tropez, Le Preverger has a storied history. It was standing long before Napoleon met his Waterloo, though obviously, it’s changed a lot since those days. Siren of French cinema Jeanne Moreau owned Le Preverger for many years, welcoming the likes of Orson Welles, Brigitte Bardot and Picasso for dinner parties the likes of which one can only imagine.

The estate was then purchased by another legend in the shape of English country style maven Laura Ashley, during which time Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher added their names to Le Preverger’s guest list.

A Stress-Free Holiday Is Child’s Play With 3 Monkeys Kids Club

At Karma making sure that all of our guests are having the time of their life is our first priority – that’s why we created the 3 Monkeys Kids Club – for kids both young and old!

You’ll find the 3 Monkeys Kids Club at Karma Resorts around the world – but the first 3 Monkeys opened at our flagship Bali resort, Karma Kandara. The name is an ode to long tailed macaques that lived in the area long before Kandara became a reality. It recognizes their childlike, playful natures – and the fact that they live in troops, staying close to friends and family members, with whom they learn and play. That’s right, 3 Monkeys is for big kids too!

Three Monkeys is all about community. Our logo features the maxim ‘See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’ which derives from an old Japanese proverb reflecting the Buddhist philosophy of right mind, right speech and right action.
