We would like to inform you and the Board of Directors about our recent stay in K2 at Borgo di Colleoli, Tuscany, Italy: My husband and I stayed in K2 at Borgo di Colleoli in Tuscany, Italy from July 24 until August 7.
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment on the first floor in one of the villas. We had a lovely view of the Tuscan landscape. The buildings and the apartments are fully in style with the Tuscan architecture. The apartment was tastefully decorated, light, and full of modern comfort. There was enough space for the two of us. The air conditioning units were very clever hidden so there was nothing on the outside that disturbed the appearance of the Borgo. There are two swimming pools at the Borgo. One pool is climate controlled which means the water is cool in summertime and warm in colder months. One of the pools is especially for children. There are plenty chairs and umbrellas. The Borgo provided us with four pool towels.
In the main plaza of the Borgo there are two restaurants with nice outside sitting in the shade. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bigger restaurant offers also a small card between mealtimes. The food is very good and there is a good Italian wine list. Prices are relatively high but that is normal for Tuscany and many places in Europe. For us the price level was normal but for non-Europeans it might be more expensive compared to Asia or the USA. On Thursday nights there was live music (smooth jazz) and an Italian buffet.
Both times there was rain and thunder during the day so the buffet was held inside. However the food and wine was outstanding and the music was entertaining. Just outside the Borgo there is a large pizzeria and restaurant which serves great pizzas. There is WiFi available in the reception of the Borgo.
Supermarkets and other shops are in the villages nearby. The Borgo is really ‘agroturismo' on a high level: a luxurious, stylish holiday resort in the countryside. There are hotel rooms, studios, and apartments of various sizes, in several buildings and villas. The grounds of the Borgo are traffic free. There are no cars allowed.
However there are electric cars available for transporting luggage or guests. There is parking space outside the grounds of the Borgo. The guests of the Borgo come from many countries. We noticed many Dutch guests, Belgian, German, French, Austrian, British, Swedish, Italian, and American guests. The location is hard to beat. The Borgo is surrounded by rolling hills, meadows, fields full of sunflowers, farms, and olive groves.
All the famous Tuscan cities are in easy reach by car: Pisa, Luca, Florence, San Gimignano, Volterra, and many other interesting old places. It is fantastic to tour the countryside. The service in the resort was great. Elizabeth, the manager, took very well care of us. No need for us to check in with the reception since Elizabeth gave us a personal welcome. Elizabeth regularly checked with us how we were doing and took care of organizing the midweek cleaning.
We could choose when we wanted to have our apartment cleaned: after three days or four days. As long as we gave the key before two o'clock it was fine. The only comment we can make is that after one week there was no new supply of shampoo, soap, gel, coffee, tea, etc. The day before we were leaving Elizabeth came to say goodbye. We have been to all of the Royal beach clubs in Goa and in Bali, to the K2 at Ratan Haveli in Jaipur, to the K2 at the Saboey in Koh Samui, and we can honestly say that K2 at the Borgo di Colleoli is really the most K2 of all.
It is a luxurious, up market resort, very stylish, and very much in harmony with its surroundings. The apartments are well built, the grounds are very well maintained, and it has a lovely atmosphere being in the Tuscan countryside. It is truly a welcome asset to the Royal portfolio. Are there only positive sides and no negative aspects? No, there are some aspects where members may have problems with.
On Saturdays, which is also check in day, there are often wedding parties held in the restaurants of the Borgo, especially in spring and summer. Of course the Borgo is a perfect location for pictures and wedding parties. However this means that the restaurants, which operate independently from the Borgo, are not available for the guests of the Borgo or only for a few guests who have made reservations in advance.
On the Saturday of our arrival there were even two weddings: one in the Borgo and one in the next door restaurant annex pizzeria. This meant that the guests had to wait in line since there were no tables left and the restaurant could only serve pizzas. Other restaurants are far away and the countryside can get very dark at night so driving is not that easy for tourists. Another disadvantage of the weddings is the lack of parking space.
There is only one parking lot - or more a sort of space in the woods next to the church which is used as a parking lot - and when there are not only guests in the Borgo but also many wedding guests, it is almost impossible to find a parking space. It might be a suggestion to advice members to make bookings for the restaurant immediately upon arrival.
After all: we really had a wonderful time in a lovely resort in a beautiful area. It is a great asset for Royal Resorts and we would recommend the Borgo to many members.
