Christel House Update

As 2017 draws to an end and the spirit of Christmas stirs our souls, we are warmed by the glow of this year’s achievements. Not the kind that can be measured in dollars and cents, but the currency of caring.

Our proudest moment by far came in reading the words of Ann Gilchrist, Development Director of the non-profit organization Christel House, Europe, who wrote to thank Karma Group for its support this year, saying: “As someone who shares our noble mission of transforming the lives of impoverished children, I know you will be delighted to learn that 2017 has been another successful year for Christel House.”

In her letter, Ms. Gilchrist acknowledged some of the many ways in which our company’s philanthropic work has empowered the charity to help break the cycle of poverty among underprivileged youths and their families in some of the most impoverished parts of the world.

Thanks to Christel House’s tireless work in India where Karma operates and contributes support:

  1. Ninety-two percent of Christel House India graduates go on to college or get a job. Nationally, less than ten percent of Indian students graduate from high school
  2. Christel House India students get two nutritious meals and a snack daily, covering eighty percent of their daily nutritional needs, which means family members at home have more to eat. (In 2016 alone, 453,380 meals were served to Christel House students in India.)
  3. Christel House students are getting a hands-on introduction to technology since the opening of its new school building in Naya Raipur on February 10. The school’s computer lab not only ensures that pupils have access to the best possible resources, but thanks to its community outreach program, it also provides students’ siblings with an opportunity to acquire computer literacy not otherwise available to them
  4. Sixty-eight eighth-graders from Christel House in Bangalore were able to enjoy an all-expenses-paid Camp Royal summer holiday at the Royal Goan Beach Club in Goa this year, a treat which most of the children experienced for the first time, through the Karma Camino Foundation. An annual event since 2002, Camp Royal visits include accommodation, meals, swimming, painting, magic shows, games, competitions, and of course, playtime on the beach
  5. Seven highly-deserving students were able to graduate this year, thanks to the over $10,600 Karma Royal Group raised for Christel House India Bangalore’s College & Careers scholarship program – with its annual fund-raising Penguin Walk on October 20, led by the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Karma Royal Group himself, John Spence. “To be in a position to embark on the Karma Penguin Walk in the company of high-achieving, socially responsible and like-minded individuals for the express benefit of the young students on the College & Careers scholarship program is a tremendous privilege, and one that I intend for us to continue each year,” said Spence. “When it comes to children and their education, we are always willing to go the extra mile. They are our common future and we consider it our sacred duty to help however we can. Together, we hope to build a better world – one step at a time.” And as we ring in the new year, building a better world is precisely what we will continue striving to do.
