At Karma St. Martin’s, we are all committed to making your stay as enjoyable as possible and do everything we can to cater to your individual needs. Since life in the Scilly Isles moves at a gentle pace and arrangements take slightly longer than on the mainland, please be sure to inform us of any special needs you may have in advance of your arrival. That way, we can make every accommodation necessary to ensure your maximum comfort and help facilitate your mobility in and around our resort as well as the island itself.
Traveling to St. Martin’s

Arriving on St. Martin’s
St. Martin’s has two quays: the Lower Town Quay, directly in front of the hotel, and Higher Town Quay, a 10-minute drive. As we always aim to meet each and every guest upon arrival, we would be happy to make a vehicle or chair available by advance request.
On arrival at Karma St. Martin’s
Reception is located on ground floor. While we do not have a hearing loop, we can accommodate most special needs, and a member of our team would be delighted to assist you in completing check-in at the front desk or seated in the restaurant – wherever you feel most comfortable.
Following check-in, our reception team will escort you to your room, ensuring that you have everything you require to settle in. They will also show you how to use the telephone in your room to communicate with reception, the restaurant, and in the unlikely case of emergency.
There is a complimentary porter service to assist with luggage on arrival and at departure.
Ground floor / Public areas
The hotel was built in 1989 and though extensively refurbished in 2014 when acquired by Karma Group, its structure reflects the era, retaining its initial recessed corridor with three sets of two low-rise steps. As such, the hotel bar, upper restaurant and five of the twelve ground floor guest rooms are entirely wheelchair accessible. All public areas in the hotel are well lit, and there are strategically-situated couches and seats all around.
Some staff members have basic first aid training to provide assistance in case of an accident or emergency, and we have a well-stocked first aid kit on the premises.
The First floor
There are guest rooms on the first floor which can be reached only via two flights of stairs. While there is currently no lift in the hotel, there are banisters all the way up both sides of the wide, carpeted staircase.
Each of our refurbished guest rooms is the essence of contemporary luxury and classic English style, equipped with en-suite bathroom, mini bar, telephone and guest directory containing information about the hotel and its facilities.
The hotel has an audio fire alarm system, backed by a personal evacuation plan (PEP) to ensure the safe evacuation of all guests in the case of an emergency. Should you have any concerns whatsoever, our general manager or assistant general manager would be happy to provide you with further information.
Non-feather / hypoallergenic pillows are available upon request.
Karma St. Martin’s does not have designated bathroom facilities for the disabled, but can make bath and toilet aids as well as detachable grab rails available with advance notice.
For the convenience of guests with babies, a changing station is available in the public rest room on the ground floor.
Dining at the Cloudesley Shovell Restaurant
Most dietary requirements at our restaurant can be catered for, and our head chef would be happy to discuss them with you prior to your arrival.
All the seating and tables in our dining area are movable, and we also have specific tables with extra access, which can be reserved upon request, as well as chairs with arms.
Despite such accommodations, we can also serve all items on the menu to your room, should you prefer.
There is a large print menu available upon request, though a member of our restaurant staff would also be happy to recite a menu or list of ingredients.
Our spa, situated in an out building at the far end of the property and accessible only via a flight of stairs, is not yet accessible by wheelchair, though we hope to make it so in the near future.
The hotel has two vehicles, which can be used to transport guests around Saint Martin’s at a surcharge, with ample space to load a wheelchair in the back. Mobility scooters, too, can be rented through a third party, also with an applicable charge. Please bear in mind that with either mode of transportation, the island has just one road and some parts can only be accessed on foot.
Dogs and guide dogs are not only allowed, but welcome! We are proud to be an award-winning dog-friendly hotel and believe our island retreat is the ultimate destination and reward for your faithful canine companion.
The reception desk is staffed 12 hours per day, though help is of course available around the clock in case of an emergency, with a staff member always on-site and on call.
Room service is available for guests who wish to dine in their rooms.
The hotel has one wheelchair, though with advance notice, can obtain an additional one for use during your stay.
