20240630T 20240630T ASAR PANDHRA -
CELEBRATING SIKKIM’S SPLENDOUR

Celebrate the vibrant traditions of Sikkim with the Asar Pandhra festival. As the main staple food, rice holds a special place in the hearts of the Sikkimese. The term ‘Asar’ in Nepali refers to the months of June and July, signaling the sowing season, and ‘Pandhra’ means 15th. Falling between mid-June to early July, this festival beautifully showcases the bond between the people and their fields. Join us, and experience first-hand the rich customs, heartfelt rituals, and genuine warmth of northeast India’s cherished festival.

Dive into Sikkim’s rich traditions starting with a scenic village stroll with our Karma Martam guides. Witness daily life in Martam Village, where traditions run deep and life flows at its own pace. Let the stunning Changey falls take your breath away as you explore the landscape. And when it’s time to refuel, dine with a local family on a home-cooked meal that’s every bit as warm and genuine as Sikkim itself.

DAY 2 – MONDAY, 01 JULY 2024

9 am : Join us in the restaurant courtyard for a soulful puja ceremony. After a delicious breakfast, prepare to embrace the life of a Sikkimese farmer. Watch as the scenic terraced rice fields are ploughed by oxen in a traditional method known as ‘Joru Gotnu’. As the dedicated ‘bausey’ (local farmers) deftly work the land, get hands-on and experience the joy of sowing rice seeds. Round off the morning with a cozy tea break, complete with delightful local treats.

DAY 3 – TUESDAY, 02 JULY 2024

As evening sets in, visit the tranquil ‘Gufa’, a meditation haven for Buddhist Monks. Dive into the world of the Tibetan school of Buddhism and get a glimpse into the lives dedicated to calm and purpose. As the stars come out, join us at 07:00 pm in the restaurant courtyard. Gather around a cosy bonfire and get ready for the highlight of the Asar Pandhra festival. Feel the beat of traditional music and watch dances that tell stories of Sikkim’s past, making memories you’ll cherish forever.
